Hi I'm Emma The glasses? ... I read a lot.
Anywhos, let me
tell you a bit about my master ... who I love dearly
even though he
beats me relentlessly ... bark bark bark!
Percy has actively pursued
a "personal" musical vision for over 45 years.
He was part of the early 70's Toronto experimental music scene,
playing in bands such as Breathless which included Nash the Slash.
After playing in bands, he began to expand his musical
vocabulary
with investigations into jazz and avant-garde improvisation.
He did some studying and began working on experiments in solo recording.
Unfortunately his music became the aural version of modern abstract
painting,
which while very rewarding
for him,
was quite strange to normal ears.
No problem.
Percy had always wanted to race cars, so he put down the guitar,
bought a Lola Formula Ford and went road racing.
This foolishness drew him to the art of metal fabrication
which was required in order to affordably repair and modify the car.
He found the work very rewarding and was able to get quite good at it.
In 1984, he and his wife Joan launched Adler Metal Works .
They have been lucky enough that AMW continues to fund
life and artistic
adventures ... and my doggie food.
Percy had gravitated back to music and more investigations into jazz,
spending many years finding his new voice,
which was hiding below layers of doubt
and
turbulent misunderstandings about the nature of making music.
It has been a long journey which is not over yet,
but there is no question he has reached a new level of understanding
of his muse, and the confidence to express it.
While Percy does not consider himself a jazz musician,
the lessons learned by listening and studying this music
have informed and broadened his harmonic approach to music for sure.
My master loves nothing more than to spontaneously create new
compositions,
which for some reason he feels compelled to inflict on the rest of us.
To date, Percy has
released six CD’s of improvised electric
guitar music.
Incidentally, Joan and Percy have
raised two
beautiful
and talented daughters,
who are an endless source of love and positive energy.
He rides and maintains a small collection of motorcycles and of course
he also has little ol' me to constantly entertain him ... bark bark
bark.
My master is a lucky man.
Anywhos, thanks for getting to the bottom of my story.
love, Emma
