|Hi I'm Emma The glasses? ... I read a lot.
Anywhos, let me
tell you a bit about my master ... who I love dearly
even though he
beats me relentlessly ... bark bark bark!
Percy has actively pursued
a "personal" musical vision for over 45 years.
He was part of the early 70's Toronto experimental music scene,
playing in bands such as Breathless which included Nash the Slash.
After playing in bands, he began to expand his musical
with investigations into jazz and
He did some studying and began working on experiments in solo recording.
Unfortunately his music became the aural version of modern abstract
which while very rewarding
was quite strange to normal ears.
He discovered he wanted to make music,
but didn't want to be a normal working musician.
He needed to make money to be free to make music.
Percy had always wanted to race cars, so he put down the guitar,
bought a Lola Formula Ford and went racing.
This foolishness drew him to the art of metal fabrication
which was required in order to affordably repair and modify the car.
He found the work very rewarding and was able to get quite good at it.
In 1984, he and his wife Joan launched Adler Metal Works .
They have been lucky enough that AMW continues to fund
life and artistic
adventures ... and my doggie food.
Through this time he made more musical investigations,
spending many years working through layers of doubt
turbulent misunderstandings about the nature of making music.
What are we trying to do, supply or stimulate?
For certain I know he doesn't see himself as a guy interested
in doing a really good job of recreating the musical past.
He detests the regressive energy, lack of imagination
not to mention loss of artistic dignity to do this sort of thing.
He is more interested in moving forward to new sonic adventures.
While Percy does not consider himself a jazz musician,
the lessons learned by listening and studying this music
have informed and broadened his harmonic approach to music for sure.
My master loves nothing more than to spontaneously create new
which for some reason he feels compelled to inflict on the rest of us.
To date, Percy has
released six CD’s of improvised electric
Incidentally, Joan and Percy have
and talented daughters,
who are an endless source of love and positive energy.
He rides and maintains a small collection of motorcycles and of course
he also has little ol' me to constantly entertain him ... bark bark
My master is a lucky man.
Anywhos, thanks for getting to the bottom of my story.
